Hashtag STRIKE A POSE! Instagram is a social media platform that runs entirely on pictures, completely captivating memories in timeless threads of posts and hashtags.

The great thing about Instagram is that these memories have the potential to go viral! Reaching hundreds, if not thousands of people who may want to recreate the images and experiences themselves.

But how could you turn your commercial holiday display into a viral sensation? Luckily for you, Classic Displays is #intheknow and can give you some #tipsandtricks to creating viral holiday displays.

Let’s get into it.

Do Some Research

Keyword research is often conducted in marketing campaigns to see what potential customers are searching for when looking for companies like yours. On Instagram, there’s a similar keyword element associated with the site - hashtags.

People include these tags within the text portion of their posts allowing other users to search for this hashtag and find associated posts. An easy one to follow is #catsofinstagram - a hashtag that helps kitty cat lovers find cute pictures of frisky felines.

So, if you want the best chance of creating a viral display, you need to find the hashtags people commonly use when snapping pics in front of holiday displays. Do some general research, find popular posts, and see the hashtags they’re using.

If you begin posting pictures using these hashtags to hype up your display, you will reach people online and encourage others to use the same hashtag.

You can also take this time to look and see what other popular posts are featuring in terms of holiday displays. Is there currently a popular theme? Like a winter wonderland or maybe Santa’s Workshop?

Are popular posts featuring a certain type of display - such as a big Christmas tree or Santa Claus?

Doing a bit of research before you plan your commercial holiday display is a great way to ensure you’re making something that inspires.

Set a Theme and Make it Cohesive

While it might be tempting to have a mishmash of displays in the hopes of appealing to as many people as possible - but this can be a disservice. If your display theme lacks cohesion, it’s going to look clunky and like it wasn’t set up with forethought.

It also makes it harder to take Instagram-worthy photos.

The key to making a great Instagram photo is having a well-put-together holiday scene that makes people think: “WOW! Look at that! It looks like something out of a movie!”

Themes also make it easier to plan out your displays and really create a magical experience for attendees. Imagine walking through a candy cane lane scene and finding yourself in a magical-looking winter forest. That’s something that could easily blow up on Instagram!

Or maybe you want to do a snow globe theme - where the entire display looks and feels like you’re inside of a Christmas-themed snow globe.

These are all things that the average person and influencer alike would love to catch viral-worthy photos of.

Make the Experience Interactive

Having an interactive experience is a great way to really get people involved and snapping photos. Imagine walking through a dimly lit walkway, just for drape lighting above your head to slowly come to life, leading you down to an archway where you and your friends can pose and take pictures (see Otaki archway)

Now imagine someone filming that and turning it into a viral Instagram reel!

Whether you utilize pressure-activated lights or carefully placed photo-ops to keep people moving from one place to another, giving them more opportunity to capture endless moments of wonder. By interacting, the experience is more fun and makes for longer-lasting impressions.

And those impressions can lead to Instagram impressions. Lots of them.

Invite Influencers

Before you scoff and roll your eyes - we’re not asking you to try and pay some super popular influencer to make them come to your display and make a post. We understand that this is generally not very feasible for most institutions.

However, you can reach out to smaller, local influencers to come and visit your display. Many smaller influencers are happy to accept experiences as payment over cash, and it allows you to make further connections.

There are several benefits to consider:

Increased Authenticity and Trust

Smaller influencers are often very engaged with their loyal following, so much so that their audience feels more trust when they receive recommendations. They trust their opinions because they’re relatable and genuine. If you can have them promote your display, the more likely people are to engage with the posts and come see for themselves.

Increased Engagement Rates

Micro-influencers tend to have increased engagement rates compared to bigger influencers. Their smaller but highly dedicated following are more likely to interact with their content, increasing visibility and interaction with your holiday display.

Increased Local Influence

If your holiday display event is local or regional, smaller influencers often have a stronger presence in their communities. They can attract a highly targeted audience who is more likely to attend the event in person, which increases your overall reach online.

Invest in High-Quality Holiday Displays

If you want your display to be the talk of the town, you can’t skimp out on the quality of the product. You need the highest-quality holiday displays.

You’re not going get an even better return on investment than if you purchase high-quality commercial Christmas decorations rather than low-quality ones that could flicker, short out, or maybe even not work like they were promised.

From big, massive Christmas trees (see the Trento Tree), and a big Ol’ light-up snowman (see the Mosby Snowman), to high-quality LED Christmas lights - quality makes or breaks the best of holiday displays.

Now, if you don’t have the budget for large, snow-pieces for your display, don’t let a lack of decoration take away from your scene. You can always invest in more high-quality LED lights to decorate the natural landscape of the scene and create something magical without the need for large-scale pieces.

However, having a few, high-quality showstoppers (see the Spokane Reindeer) can complement your display perfectly and create that “wow” factor. Mix that up with a few additional Christmas decorations and you have an Instagram viral display.

Get Professional Help

Decorating a town or city with commercial Christmas displays, whether it’s just a few streets, shopping centers, or entire districts, is always a major undertaking. That’s why most towns and cities outsource most of the work rather than relying on a few well-intentioned volunteers.

The most essential step is to have professional help in the display planning, designing, and installing of commercial Christmas displays and lights. And when we say professional help - we don’t mean that one friend’s uncle who is also an electrician. We mean getting a professional lighting and decoration installer.

Professionals know what they’re doing, and you won’t have to worry that things won’t work as they’re supposed to. Otherwise, you could be spending a lot of money on high-quality commercial displays with a product that is lackluster because it just doesn’t work. More than likely because it was improperly installed.

Of course, this is going to require additional funds, but it’s well worth the price if it ensures your Instagram-worthy Christmas display is functioning perfectly.

Relying on a truly professional installer means better quality displays, less risk, less work, and a display you can trust is in working order.

Nothing is going to be a bigger bummer than coming up onto a gorgeous display that just… doesn’t work. #Notblessed #flop #lettheproshandleit.
