Supporting the Canadian Cancer Society can take many forms, but organizations often want a way to make that support visible in the community rather than invisible on a balance sheet. A Cancer Awareness Bench does both. It creates a permanent place for reflection, remembrance and awareness while generating a financial contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society.
The result is a project your municipality, hospital, business or community group can point to for decades. Below is how the program works, who it is designed for, and how to get a project started in your community.
A Cancer Awareness Bench is a commercial-grade outdoor bench finished in pink or yellow and installed in a public or shared space as a visible symbol of cancer awareness. It is far more than site furniture.

Cancer Awareness Benches are available in two awareness colours. Both are eligible for the 10% contribution, and the right choice usually depends on the campaign or community your project is tied to.
The daffodil is the Canadian Cancer Society's long-standing symbol of hope, and yellow benches carry that meaning into public space.
A yellow bench works well when your project is about cancer broadly rather than one diagnosis. Municipalities, hospitals and service clubs often choose yellow to recognize people living with any type of cancer, to mark a Daffodil Month campaign in April, or to create a general place of reflection near a treatment centre.

Pink benches are suited to breast cancer awareness campaigns, hospital foundation fundraising and October awareness activities.
They are a natural fit for hospitals, cancer centres, BIAs running an October campaign, and community groups that host annual walks or fundraisers. Many organizations install a pink bench as the permanent legacy piece of a campaign that otherwise ends when the event does.
